CALGARY 2022

​CIC Environment Division at the 105th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition held in Calgary, June 2022 ​

Talks were held from June 13 - 17 with session topics ranging from Toxic Metal(liod)s in the Environment; Microplastics; Environmental Chemistry in Air, Water, Fire, and Earth; Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry; and Technology Critical Elements. Thanks to the program chairs Hans Osthoff and Jurgen Gailer (University of Calgary) and session chairs: Juergen Gailer, Som Niyogi, Markus Brinkmann, Matthew Ross, Allan Bertram, Elijah Schnitzler, Tristen Bridle, Juergen Gailer, and Jack Zhang for their hard work putting together an excellent program. 

Fun was had by professors, government and industry scientists, and students alike at the Environment Division mixer at the James Joyce Pub on June 15th. The event was held immediately after the poster session and was a highlight for many! Admission was free and there were appetizers and drinks provided courtesy of our sponsors, CD Nova (contributed $2000) and Canalytic (contributed $500).

Dr. Cora Young (York University) was awarded the Environment Division Early Career Research Award, which recognizes an outstanding early career researcher who has made distinguished contributions in the fields of environmental chemistry or environmental chemical engineering. Read more here.

Dr. Greg Evans (University of Toronto) was awarded the Environment Division and Development Dima Award, which recognizes distinguished contributions to research and/or development in the fields of environmental chemistry or environmental chemical engineering. Read more here. 

Dr. Hind Al-Abadleh (Wilfred Laurier University) was awarded the Gilead Award for Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion which is presented to a chemist as a mark of distinction and recognition for excellence in the work in EDI initiatives. Read more here. 

Dr. Parisa A. Ariya (McGill University) was awarded the Ricardo Aroca Award, for distinguished contribution to the field of analytical chemistry. Read more here.
