Featuring Diversity in Canadian ENTEC (Environmental Technology, Engineering, Chemistry) Initiative

Our third feature is a video from the group of Dr. Paola Mussone Group at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)!
Video Description : This video highlights the work carried out by cohorts of students from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology since April 2020 when we initiated a project aiming to establish a correlation between microplastics occurrence, polymer type, physical shape and size and: 1) freshwater quality parameters, and 2) urban, rural, and industrial inputs along the North Saskatchewan River (NSR) within the Edmonton Municipal Region (EMR). The region has the highest population density in the Saskatchewan rivers watershed and hosts the largest petrochemical complex and plastics manufacturing facilities west of the Great Lakes. This project, the largest microplastics science watershed study in western Canada and one of the largest in a river system in North America, is ongoing and will carry on until March 2025. The principal investigator is Dr. Paolo Mussone, Ovintiv Research Chair in Energy at NAIT.
